About
Ernesto Ferriol was born at Holguin, Cuba, in 1971.He studied at the Raul Gomez Garcia Elementary School of Art and at El Alba Professional School of Art in Holguin before majoring in Painting at the High Institute of Art in Havana. His work had been displayed at the Center of Visual Arts in Havana, The Provincial Center of Art in Holguin, The Iberoamerica House, Holguin, Cuba; Caixa Penedes Aula de Cultura, Sant Vicent Del Horts, Barcelona, Spain; Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, Kyoto, Japan. Marziart Internationale Galerie, Hamburg, Germany, Promo-Arte Project Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, Gallery Mayha, Takatsuki, Osaka, Japan and many other venues. For this artist the drawing has always been a divertimento,a feast,a great ally in his journey of exploration. He plays the voyeur, the seer, the time-traveler or the prophet in his neighborhood.
His images reveal the most unusual situations.Those that are never seen or are silenced. His production is embedded within the tradition of Cuban drawing giving it his personal interpretation of reality, history and daily experience.
For him the feeling of exhaustion of social models and global crisis is taken and processed through artistic means. Through the systematic practice of drawing Ferriol develops a method of approximation and communication towards a mutual and complex reality. His inquisitive gaze is looking for beauty in the forms. His compositions invite us to dialogue from a world of dreams. His works are always a fable recreation. In this artist there is a taste for the mind-blowing, for the literary, to achieve in the midst of decay, a poetical essence, a flash sublime.
