Work
Trying to describe her involvement of being an artist Gesine Imhof says:

“My human existence cannot be separated from being an artist. I am intensely interested in backgrounds and thoughts about motives and intentions, the very moment of life. My approach is to dig up and make visible the inner side, the feelings, and let them be reflected by the outer components.

In literature, music or films emotions can be built up deliberately and slowly, but as a painter I can only offer one single picture, which has to tell everything instantaneously.
My intention is to visualize the feeling, a procedure, a thought as precisely as possible. The picture, which becomes a medium of correspondence between artist and contemplator, should explain, touch and hit.”

Education
Gesine Imhof was born in the former GDR in 1966. Her family which was highly interested in art lived at the Baltic Sea.

Numerous contacts with artists led to an early decision to become a paintress herself.

During the years of 1985 – 1987 Gesine studied art and German philology at Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald. At the same time she became acquainted with various artists and started to intensify her personal skills and faculties in painting. It was Prof. Dieter Gantz at the Art College of Berlin-Weißensee who instructed her and supported her endeavour of finding her own style in the years of 1988 till 1990.
