About

My work is a mixture of digital & film images, I sometimes use a scanner to create certain pieces. I also incorporate text extracts taken from my note books - automatic writings and quotes I accumulate over time. When I am picture making I feel as if I am painting with my camera, the movements of my body becoming the ever developing ‘brush’ strokes of my paintbrush performing for the camera generating my emotions and feelings into the frame.

During my earlier work I took my inspiration and direction from literary texts, such as Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem ‘The lady of Shallot’ (1833) and Charlotte Perkins Gilmans short story ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ (1892) both featuring aspects of depression and entrapment. Currently I enjoy gathering my sources of inspiration from film's and TV shows such as the BBC's series Red Dwarf. I love SCI-FI films and literature one particular book I read recently was 'Mr Spaceship, By Phillip.K.Dick, of course not forgetting the master of story telling Mr Rod Serling and his superb Twilight Zone Collection. Also Some of my favorites Directors consist of Georges Méliès, Michelangelo Antonioni, and of course the legendary Alfred Hitchcock!
I like the idea of my images having a cinematic feel to them as this is of interest to me and allows a broader audience to observe.

In my images I integrate myself as the subject as it is easier for me to do so, it enables me to get exactly the right images I want, this isn’t to say I do not welcome extras as I am open to new ideas. Also referring to myself as the subject it detracts the attention away from me and allows the audience to focus on the mysteriousness of the image and the underlining story. I like to make normal scenes off centre with my emotional poses and obscure elements of context.
I allow my own influence of feelings to mix, congealing a surreal mixture of fantasy and fictional glazed layer of twisted normality to form and amalgamate which erupts whenever I get a blast of spontaneity. My images are like dark fairy tales with poetic levels, which subtly shock, and intrigue.
With this I hope to enable my audience to question my work and debate its contents, taking them away from their everyday environment.
