The images I have chosen to present here, is in most cases collage , photomontage work. Other of my works are mixed media mostly based on abstract oil pastel or acrylic paintings.
My overall ambition is to create images that add new dimensions to reality putting to the fore, the surrealistic dimension of reality, that is experienced with our sub-consciousness, imagination, experience and knowledge about societal and natural phenomena. As such they are ultimately more "real", than our immediate appreciation of reality ! They are in theoretical terms simulacrals of reality, a representation without a guaranteed reference in the world as seen in "reality" (Foucault, Deleuze, Baudrillard, Barthes).
My most used subjects are nature and urban landscapes from different cultures, but mostly European and Asian (China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan). The themes are phenomena and social economic conditions of contemporary society (crisis, wars, democracy, social movements etc)
Almost all images are made in square format and prepared for fine art print in large formats (1 meter/39 inch squares or larger) on various material (paper, canvas, aluminium ...). I have chosen the square format because of its particular freedom in terms of composition.
In all cases the images have been photographed (Canon 5DII) and modified on screen (photoshop CS5).
