My work infuses a forward-edge sensibility with a classical training. My passion is the portrait and the human subject. When I don't have a model I focus on the possibilities for contemplative spaces -- in painting, through tranquil interior scenes; and in installation, in looking toward space as the medium itself, creating constructions that invite the audience to rest and reflect.
Most recently I completed a residency at the Siena Art Institute in Siena, Italy,
where my work returned again to considerations of the figure.
I share stories about participations, other art events, and recent work on my blog, http://paulabillupsart.blogspot.com
