My latest body of work explores our relationship with and our fears around child taboos, and the transgression of moral boundaries.
All my work has a strong narrative thrust, drawing in part from a rich fund of iconic images found on the internet. The cartoons and often humorous images I use present the allure of advertisements or children's illustrations but when examined closely, throw up dark undertones.
I build up a sense of history by constantly layering, using backgrounds of drips which are indicative of violence or strong emotion and imperfect photographic techniques to convey damage and decay.
Each painting is a reflexion of a sometimes abstracted thought process not intended as censorious, which I leave open to interpretation by the viewer.
