Mito Barbosa Elias was born in 9-8-1965
in Praia - Santiago - Cabo Verde Islands.
Mito: that "griot" of memoryHis attitude towards memory, through the Arts, stems from his personalway of being. One should say that Hamilton Elias (Mito) bases hisessence on the radicalism of the elements that make him ananthropological and cultural fusion, a true "Crioulo" in what thesemantics of this word have of synthesis and aesthetic recreation.Mito was born in Cape Verde, an archipelago of the western coast ofAfrica, whose population is composed of Africans and Europeans andwhich was the first "crioulo" society on the Atlantic. All of Mito'sartistic expression reflects this ancestral, ontological and visceralsense. He does it through plastic, visual and poetic ways, overcomingfrontiers stipulated by schools and trends, and creating his ownstyle, away from the critiques' catalogues, which he calls MareCalamus. This unique nature, subverting all forms of imposition, isevident in his expositions around the world, and among which "TheHitch-Hiker Drum Beat" stands out, a homage to the beat poet JackKerouac, in the city of Providence, RI, during the year 2001.Lines, rags, garbage, luxury, writings, popular sayings, recycledpapers and other kinds of finger prints, the ingredients that arebuilt and destroyed, clearly implode on the paintings of this Griot -which Mito is and make of the paintings a "stravaganza", the accessto which only the (ulterior and id) memory allow us. … Read More
