About

Micah Liesenfeld spent most of his early life drawing worlds of geological complexity and creating a sub universe of some kind filled with air planes and sea monsters. He named his first planet "7-Lightning" after his favorite number and his second planet, "Moon Travelers," after his favorite bottle rocket. He would systematically explore these worlds with magic marker and crayons for hours. During the winter months, however, markers were the medium of choice since he loved to melt his crayons over the radiator in his bedroom. In more recent times, he graduated with a BFA from Lindenwood University after completing his undergraduate thesis show, "The Grey Planet" (2000). Exploration, isolation and emergence are often key themes for him, and his art has held to those early visions of travel through unexplored and rocky terrain. After backpacking around Europe and seeing the works by many of his favorite artists throughout the centuries, Micah returned to complete a second conceptual show he called "Vikings and Sea Monsters" (2008) which was shown and performed with paintings, music and puppets of his own design at the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center. A year long daily drawing project called "Trudger" followed. Currently, Micah is creating something he calls "10 Cups of Tea." Read More
