About

An enthusiastic, creative and artistic person, who show an ability to develop new skills when challenged. A hardworking and reliable person capable of working on my own initiative and part of a team and also have good communication skills. My work is inspired by the natural world and by those artists who represent it through its wonder and grandeur and by allowing the mind to corss the barrier between the physical universe and the imaginary one. The influences that have inspired me on my own journey are those artists such as Turner , who embraced the power and the majesty of the natural world and attempted to harness both it's destructive force and its magical qualities to focus it (in a painting) into a single point of sublime beauty.

I am a southwest base artist , my art is base here in the southwest, and on the wonder of the land and sea, your Mark,
"Coming late into art after 18 years working in a plastics factory, you might expect Mark Noble’s work to reflect a certain cynicism that is all too popular with the
contemporary art crowd. Yet Noble is no post-industrial iconoclast or sarcastic nihilist. Rather, he sets himself within the same lineage of Romanticism as Turner, taking
cues from the ‘painter of light’ in his ambient use of colour as he attempts to capture moments of nature that pass us by. For Noble, who was born with learning
difficulties, art is no isolated retreat or members only club, but a way for him to ‘connect to others.’

As such, there is little difficult or obtuse imagery in Noble’s work. Even in his ‘Ethereal’ series, what supernatural imagery he provides is grounded in realism and brings to
mind the paganism of Thomas Hardy, a mysticism that comes from the interplay of the light, land and generational imagination. For all the deliberate spectacle of works
such as ‘Ryders,’ Noble’s strongest ‘Ethereal’ works are his renderings of the Glastonbury Tor, steeped in natural mystery and swathed in fog.

Indeed, despite some colourful and Impressionistic paintings of Venice, Noble seems most at home working in his native Somerset. His best works come from his
‘Untamed Somerset’ sequence, all natural light, vibrant colours and vital flora that leaps off the canvas. Here, Noble captures the ethereal quality of his native county with
keen eye and deft brushwork, the Romantic colour palette of paintings like ‘Bluebell Wood’ and ‘Wooded Glade in Autumn’ carrying a suggestively fey quality that arrests
the viewer. The natural beauty of the landscapes that he paints is brought to life particularly by Noble’s knack for composition, always choosing to downplay harsh
shadows to better suit the mood of the piece. This delicate approach encapsulates the moment, the subtle patterns of light and shade always seeming but an eye blink
from disappearing.

If Noble’s work fails to engage with the popular detached irony of contemporary art, however, he cannot be said to be behind the times in other respects. Maintaining a
professional and easily navigated website which showcases a wide range of his work in a fair resolution, the sincerity of Noble’s will to communicate is clear. Indeed,
linked on his website is his Twitter account and a Facebook fanpage, where Noble invites us to comment on his work and engage with him directly. As stripped of
pretension and affectation as his work is, Noble hardly cuts the figure of the misunderstood artist, and this might be to his advantage. In an art world saturated with the
affected, the overblown and the deliberately offensive, Noble’s work comes as a welcome relief. His sincerely stated intentions along with his user-friendly website proves
that landscape painting need not be regarded as outmoded and unfashionable, just as art need not be inaccessible to be regarded as art."

Personal information:
Through my work I am seeking to represent a personal vision of the sublime beauty I see in the diversity and wonder of the natural world. These images therefore address the complexity and grandeur of nature and through this look at the relationship we have with the world around us.

This relationship is at the same time physical, emotional and spiritual, and involves crossing that imaginary boundary that divides our inner emotional lives from the physical, tactile world around us.

I wish my paintings to represent a first step in the mind of the viewer towards an inner journey that will challenge their preconceptions of the natural world and set them on a path towards self-discovery.

Through the relationships between colours, images, shapes and forms that characterise this journey, it is hoped the viewer will recognise the fragility of our existence in the face of those primeval forces that make up the natural world.

The influences that have inspired me in my own journey are those artists such as Turner, who embraced the power and majesty of the natural world, and attempted to harness both its destructive force and its magical qualities to focus it (in a painting) into a single point of sublime beauty.
