Maggie Royle
About
Based in Bristol UK; I have a studio at Spike Island, Bristol. I completed an MA in Fine Art (painting) at Bath Spa University in 2008.
I am interested in relationships between abstraction and figuration in painting.
I make paintings on paper, canvas and wood which take imagery from art historical and contemporary sources. I make abstract paintings alongside the representational work.
My recent paintings ('Los azulejos' series and 'We may not be here tomorrow' series) make reference to Mexican sources, for example, photographs taken in Guadalajara. Intuition and telepathy play key roles in the choice of and treatment of the subject.
