My practice has centered on painting for close to a decade now, and throughout this time my work has often explored the collision between historicity and contemporaneity. My recent paintings borrow from the spectacular aesthetic of historical painting and contemporary visual culture, negotiating the state of fragmentation or dissonance required for contemporary existence, particularly as this impacts gender, sexuality, family, and mortality. I am interested in history painting as a somewhat veiled and flawed ideal, which can be simultaneously celebrated and challenged. My current work depicts fictional, plural environments, composed of elements, often from disparate, historical sources. These large-scale, hybrid works, both revel in and parody, the historical mode.
