Born London - 1970
Lived in and around Ashford, moved to Winchester for my degree and then back to Canterbury to find myself and eventually enrol on a PGCE course at Canterbury. Then moved to Colchester where I am currently based for a teaching post at the Sixth From college - where I am now the Subject Head of Fine Art. Since moving to Colchester I have worked steadily to build up a collection of work in my studio at Cuckoo Farm Studios and my studio at home.
I seek to make bold and dynamic paintings with sensual, undulating and organic forms that rise and fall with a breathless elegance. The recent paintings have taken natural forms as their starting point but the paintings due to their technique are reminiscent of Neo-Impressionist Seurat and the vortices of the Futurists, especially the centripetal and centrifugal forces in Severinin late paintings.
The marks have been made through a chickenwire mesh which allows me to build up layers of colours in bursts, allowing previous layers to seep through and interact with the surface. Texture is employed, mixing sand with the oil paint, and I prefer to use rollers to build up layers of colour and overlapping curves. Lately the work has shifted into realism.
