Turkish artist Ahmet Murat Karayilan is preoccupied by time and place and being in the moment. This is one of the reasons that the figures in his works are invariably alone, intensifying the experience of being present in one’s surroundings. Inspired by Greek mythology and Heidegger, his works have an existential quality to them, and his figures, depicted in either black or white, bring together the two areas he studied at university – geometry and paint (he has degrees in mathematics and fine art).
