Toronto portrait painter, Judith Geher holds a Bachelor of Architecture with honors from the University of Toronto. Her practice includes drawing, painting, and sculpture, as well as designing thoughtful and considered architecture. Her work has been exhibited nationally.
Judith Geher uses images of young women from fashion magazines and the runways as a vehicle for her stylistic paintings. She is interested in the aesthetics of beauty and the architectural structure of the face. This is reinforced with simultaneous thin planes of paint and thick gooey daubs of oil. Hair, flowers and the pupils of the eyes carry broad aggressive brush strokes and freckles appear as rapid gunfire sprays of paint. Painted on either wood veneer or raw linen, she allows the texture of the substructure to infiltrate the planes of her faces. Toronto portrait painter, Judith Geher holds a Bachelor of Architecture with honours from the University of Toronto. Her practice includes drawing, painting, and sculpture, as well as designing thoughtful and considered architecture. Her work has been exhibited nationally.
Judith Geher’s figurative paintings explore contemporary images of an idealized feminine aesthetic, and are fraught with longing and desire. Working within the parameters of commonly held notions of beauty, she collects images from various fashion magazines and similar internet sites. This vehicle carries her stylistic impressions, thoughts and desires toward these images. This is reinforced with simultaneous thin planes of paint and thick gooey daubs of oil. Hair, flowers and the pupils of the eyes carry broad aggressive brush strokes. Painted on wood veneer, she allows the texture of the substructure to infiltrate the planes of her faces.
