Who I am and my work and inspirations can best be described by the following quote:- "Joan comes to painting with extensive experience in the field of education. As a start it is important to state that Joan is committed to the process of communication and self expression and it is probably significant that her understanding of the process of verbal literacy, her inquiring mind and passionate temperament have charged her with an enthusiasm to expand her own language of communication beyond 'the word'." The inspiration to extend the boundaries of my work has been the work of other artists as well as the fascinating mix of African and Euro-Centric cultures in which I live. The work is very much about the relationship between my internal world and how it relates to the external one.
