During my early years my parents would often take me, my sister and brother for long walks in the country, pointing out various tree types and other flora and fauna. They showed us how to respect the countryside but also to enjoy its beauty in the many distant views, the woodlands and meadows and the small hamlets and villages along the way. To respect farmers and their fields, by keeping to the edges of their fields rather than walking across them.
They also imbued us with a love of all musical tastes but above all classical music that invoked the countryside or of distant lands that were then too far away to see but could only be imagined from the music. Spanish, Romanian and Russian but also Vaughan Williams’ obvious love of this countryside, Dvorak’s New World with wonderful passages that have a feeling of sereneness that conjure up views of majestic lands and countryside.
I would like to feel that my photography reflects some of the feelings and love that my parents passed on to me through their love and interest in the music and countryside. It’s my hope that my photography and images, at the very least, cause you to pause, look and enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them.
