Born in Sydney, Australia. As a painter and contemporary colourist the concepts for my work stem from life experiences and the sources of inspiration found through a broad variety of subjects that include the figurative, landscape and manmade worlds.About two years ago I painted a series of carousel paintings. The inspiration for this series came from childhood memories of riding carousels and the exotic and garish horses, animals, blaring music and flashing lights that captivated me so long ago. In this body of work I experimented with trying to express that feeling of movement, colour and excitement in a completely original and unique way.By disintegrating shapes and colours into dissolving forms - a diffusion and distortion produced lyrical forms expressing movement - rhythm and illusions. Reflecting on these more recent painting methods I wanted to engage longer and deeper with the painting process in a more deliberate and meditative mark making way. Perhaps this stemmed out of a period of illness where if I can use the analogy of gardening when I spent weeks upon weeks pulling up weeds across an entirely wild bush garden and this imbued me with a kind of therapeutic contentment which has carried over into my painting. Formerly bolder more expressive splashy painting was my painting process. Whether I am looking at the majesty of nature or the magnificence and complexities of life and its cultural activities, I am able to fragment and dissolve everyday life by drawing out its absurdities and reconfiguring those elements. Work
I have been developing a body of work which focuses on merging ideas, different cultural customs and personal experiences into abstracted images of figurative and visible world motifs, forming distortions of movement and colour that evoke radiance and diversity of human nature and the natural world.

Since working in the direction of evolving my own style and technique via the disintegration of shape and colour into fragments, I have been creating paintings with a diffusion and distortion giving lyricism to my work – expressing movement and rhythm - an illusion imbued with an emotive spirit. Colour is energy that suggests rhythm. There is a vibration of excitement in the work that cannot physically be touched, but instead pulsates and the viewer is drawn into the world that I create. The vibrations create an energy which when transformed and expressed in painting come from a spirit deep within: to paraphrase Wassily Kandinsky, the choice of an object or a subject is decided only by a corresponding vibration in the human soul.

My concepts are drawn from inspirations of the natural world, the human form and the man-made world around me fused together with personal life experiences to reveal kaleidoscopic jewel-like paintings, which become metaphors for life. Because life embodies energy, nothing remains static in nature & human life and therein lies a trajectory to the soul and the spirit that moves and stirs within every organism, thus my works form narratives from our lives.

Breaking down motion via the interpretation of expressive mark making creates sensations and spirituality that takes me on a journey from those initial ideas through to painting the work. The reconfiguration of the traditional becomes an illusion of painterly motion, a diffusion of light and colour interactions - distortion changes an object’s usual shape to communicate ideas and feelings.

Preliminary works on paper may be studies or become finished works. Final works are painted in oils on MDF board, a support that lends itself to the work through a blending of colour saturation, which brings about a lushness in the works. My working process enables me to immerse myself totally whilst painstakingly applying fine brushstrokes to gradually bring the work into its own - from genesis through the intense layering of colour and mark marking. I generally work in a series of paintings.

The development of an imagined piece into an actual artwork is a progression of possibilities, thereby converting a possibility into a reality from initial concept to execution. The finished works are a journey, and the freedom to make art allows me to combine my ideas and materials to respond both subjectively and spiritually.
