Artist Statement:

My work is inspired by the landscape, and the evocative nature of the world we live in. I want the viewer to be enchanted and absorbed by the atmosphere of the landscape, as if they were caught up in the tumultuous clouds of a storm.
Absolutely central to the landscape and my work, is the horizon line, which both divides and separates the land from sky. This imaginary line is in a sense a never-ending line, a line that is always seen in the distance and never quite reached by the viewer. The light in the distance is a guiding force that provides the way through the dramatic and ominous world, a sign that there is a way out.
The viewer is perched on the edge of this sublime world, looking out at the vast journey ahead, and it is from this position of safety that the journey can be surveyed. The landscape and indeed the world is a strange, beautiful and destructive place to be, it is a place you can feel both alone in and at one with.
My work is painted in oils on square format canvases, which have been used to accentuate the line of the horizon. The horizon line then becomes the focal point in the painting world, giving you a goal to aim towards, and escape the claustrophobia of these emotions.
All of my works seek to transport you to a place enveloped by emotion and colour, and give you a place to dream, or a place to escape to. They allow the viewer to be isolated in thought and contemplation.

"It seems logical that when you talk about withdrawing from the world, you should be contemplating things outside it. For often, we are seeking time to contemplate what we are escaping. A space free of interuptions in order to think about past or current affairs"
- Michel de Montagne, 'On Solitude'
