My latest images display people entering, within, or exiting a state of sleep. Color plays a critical role in how I convey my sleeping figures. I try to use colors that are very beautiful but kind of awkward, or combinations of colors that may take a moment to register with the viewer. I use these unnatural colors to allude to the distorted perceptions and strange images we see while dreaming. Sleep seems to have been a means of escape from the world for me. Sometimes, when I become weary of overcoming obstacles, I'll just snooze problems away. In this way, I indelicately deactivate the superficial importance of school, work, etc. I like to acknowledge that we go on living in our minds during our rest from the “real” world. My slumber is very much my comfort zone. I want viewers to feel the comfort and warmth of being wrapped in blankets when they are engaged with my painted dreamers, and hopefully the pictorial slumber of my figures will have viewers recognize the beauty of their very own nightly escape.…Read More
