Born: 1976 Malaysia My name is Janet C. Moses and I am a Malaysian Indian mixed media figurative/nudes artist. My work is, put simply a desire to produce the texture and weight of a three dimesional sculpture onto a two dimesional medium. I often find it frustrating that art in a gallery context is for practical purposes, untouchable; my paintings give me an almost cathartic physical release during creation and it is my intention that they retain this quality on the wall, inviting touch, and in so doing bringing the viewer into contact with the piece. The techniques I employ derive from many experiments with sculpture. The most obvious would be that I paint with my hands, using materials more commanly found in ceramics. This enables me to achive the desired texture. It is my Indian upbringing that has the most bearing in my work. I am aware, as are all Indians of a tangible sensuality that permeates so many cultural areas. The human body is a sexual object, but rather than present my nudes in any context that would give the work narrative, it is the rough physicallity of the body itself, a tactile quality that connects me with whoever is viewing the piece. It is for this reason that I paint against plain background and almost never include faces. …Read More
