My work is about the exchange of information between the individual and the group and how the group dynamic develops through the Bruce Tuckerman cycle of - forming, storming, norming and performing to eventually disbanding or reforming as a newly developed group with different goals.
I am interested in the ‘storming’ stage of group formation. Which is in contrast to the norming section of the cycle where the individual has come together and assigned roles to then perform the tasks. Most organisations such as religion, facebook and established art practices work at this level.
At the ‘storming’ stage all the ideas surrounding a subject are played out but are never resolved. The ‘storming’ section is the most volatile retaining the most energy through the ‘individuals’ conflict and allowing the possibility of a quick fracture of the group.
The use of of different types of information, text, images, mark making and colour in the painting are intentionally positioned as if a group is forming before you but is never resolved. …Read More
