Born in 1966 in Glasgow, I bought my first SLR aged 14 (I've still got the receipt somewhere), and took it everywhere with me. Firing off random shots, learning what worked and what didn't - mostly what didn't.
Life, particularly student life, family life and working life overtook my photography and it took a back seat for many years. More recently, the rash act of purchasing a 1950s Zeiss medium format camera from Ebay for 5, simply because it looked like it would smell nice, rekindled my interest, which inevitably led to a rapid ascent through a variety of digital cameras. I now shoot predominantly with two Pentax SLRs and a variety of old manual lenses. I have no preconceived idea of subject matter I like to shoot, my own feeling is that photography is far too flexible a medium, and I have far too much to learn, for me to consider going down one particular route, and besides I quite enjoy a large degree of randomness.
Schooled in Glasgow, then following a degree in Wood Science, I then spent a while in land/country based industries, before working for myself since '98.
