Giovanni Capriotti was born in Rome 1972. After finishing high school he moved to Amsterdam and London attracted by the vibrant and creative 90s. Passion for photography has always been part of his life, although at the beginning he could not afford to buy a decent camera and instead was experimenting with polaroids and vintage models, such as the old Yashica that his granny found at the pension where she used to work.
After a few months in the UK he enrolled in a basic film photography diploma at LCC (London Communication College), which helped him to organize everything he had learnt as a self taught photographer. The mandatory national service called him back to his native Italy and after one year spent serving his country he was employed with an airline, seeing his chances to travel increasing drastically. He eventually fell in love with social reportage and over a decade of voyaging he was able to cover different global issues while being represented by an italian communication and art agency called DD PROJECT.
His work has been displayed in 2 solo and 2 collective exhibitions, as well as several online magazines, blogs and a printed catalog:

Currently Giovanni is living in Toronto, the airline still giving him the chance to travel, and always maintaining a passion for documentary photography. His approach to any of his shots is associating reportage techniques, photographic sets, surreal atmospheres and a touch of casualty, all kept together by a specific style of post production. His main goal is to document the modern world either through the spectacular, the absurd or the mundane, always adding a sort of cinematic vibe to each image. He likes when the observerer is questioning his photographs and loves to float among ordinary life, dreamy landscapes and hyper real environments.
His Canon 5D Mark II, supported by a range of wide angles and medium focal lenses, is focusing on a world populated by characters and elements always carrying an inner meaning or a symbol and settled in carefully chosen locations. Situations have to happen and Giovanni is waiting behind his camera set on a tripod for the actors of life to perform. The creative process ends with the last step - giving the final raw and catchy taste to each image with the assistance of his macbook pro and a couple of editing software packages, including photoshop and lightroom
His love for the works of Salvador Dali and Gregory Crewdson pushes him to work on a daily basis on his own style, always searching for new ideas, concepts, locations and atmospheres while coping with the evolving world and his "always in motion" attitude.
