Images come from silence. They bring a fascination, a trace to be captured.
They need silence to be fully enjoyed.
Our conception of art as essentially expression of a personality, our whole wiew of a genius, our impertinent curiosities about the artist's private life, all these things are the product of individualism and prevent our understanding of the nature of art.
When I start a new painting I usually have a trace, a footprint to follow, and I know it's gonna be a raid on unknown area of suggestion. A sort of challenge. Thinking and organizing has very little room on this matter. I rather base my action on intuition and gestural expressiveness and just go my way through it, using the techniques I know or inventing new ones. what comes out at the end is often a surprise for me, just because I leave all possibilities open.
