About

Photographer cum New Media artist living in the East End of London.

My time is spent creating digital photographs and at present New Media or Digital art originated using digital software specifically Photoshop. I studied Graphic Design and Life Drawing. During the 90's for 5 years I explored using soft pastels & Acrylics to make a series of works though this activity ground to a halt when I discovered the mess free environment of a computer screen
now I use Photoshop as a Digital Painter and I am discovering through experimentation ways to use this platform to create my works of art.

The work I create is very abstract amorphous and random at first sight appearing to be without direction but these works evolve as I discover how shapes and colours sit on each individual page. The objective is for it to be no more than that. And by being I create from within what ultimately is from me a melting pot of my life.

With regards to artistic inspiration I think it is almost churlish to pick any of hundreds of wonderful artists going back to and including the Renaissance who have influenced me but I can call upon Hodgkins Kandinsky Klee Miro Picasso and Pollack in the modern era as key influences. Also I take my inspiration from nature I am attracted to patterns & symmetry & reflections and randomness perhaps in a past life I spent too much time looking into kaliedoscope's but certainly in this life observing the surfaces of expanses of water is a significant inspiration. In the end though isn't life our inspiration each waking day the sights the sounds all around us. I think Ralph Waldo Emerson sums it up in this extract from his poem Snow-Storm;

the fierce artificer

Curves his white bastions with projected roof

Round every windward stake, or tree, or door.

Speeding, the myriad-handed, his wild work

So fanciful, so savage, nought cares he

For number or proportion.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

And when his hours are numbered, and the world

Is all his own, retiring, as he were not,

Leaves, when the sun appears, astonished Art

To mimic in slow structures, stone by stone,

Built in an age, the mad wind's night-work,

The frolic architecture of the snow.

I get great satisfaction from engaging in these creative pursuits that is ultimately all that matters. If you like then please buy If you don't & have any feedback please let me know what you are thinking I am sure it will help me grow.
