About

Visual Artist (Painting, Printmaking, Mixed Media); Folklorist; Poet/Performance Artist; and, Independent Curator. Di Falco received the City of Philadelphia's Award in Arts and Culture for 2009 for using his own art and curatorial skills over the past twenty years to build bridges and to open lines of communication between diverse groups of people. The artist's other accolades include: 1) a Grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (NYC, NY) in 2002 ($30,000) for his paintings and mixed media installations; 2) a 1992 Fellowship Grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (Painting); 3) an Artist's Residency at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (printmaking and painting, 2002-2003); and, 4) an Artists In Education Grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (1987). His biographical profiles appear in WHO'S WHO IN THE WORLD and WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, & 2010 editions). Gerard's main visual concerns include: experimentation with explosive uses and combinations of color; the radicalization of visual design through new uses of line, form-juxtaposition, and optical geometry; the abstraction of visual concepts in art via the use of scientific methods; and the creation of both narrative and non-narrative (abstract) illusions (what he calls "Visual Wisdoms"). Di Falco's inspirations and interests include ancient history/art; symbolism,; texture as a two-dimensional force; mythology; spirituality and its relationship to current and past culture; sacred geometry; art of the middle ages; and, the study of sacred texts.
