About

Cristina Guerrero began in the painting since was a child, with its anxieties,also trough the academy of the painter Xabier Obeso, she was being developed, until aarving at the Uiniversity. After graduating from the University of Basque Country in 2002 is currently devoted to painting. She has a predilection for realist representation in oil paintings sometimes quite large in scale and characterized by their fidelity to detail and realistic use of light and shade. Since 2004 she has established herself internationally with solo and group exhibitions.

The instantaneous moment and its correlation. It is to these dipoles of initial appearance and apparent counterpart that the Spanish artist Cristina Guerrero Martinéz devoted her work cycle SEMEJANZAS (Similarities), that has given recognition as a painter, national and internationally .In this cycle of paintings, combining objects from her personal life and possessions with details of her or her partner’s body. In the process, she focuses on a correspondence of form, colour and objects, thus triggering new associations.

Cristina Guerrero consistently combines things from her everyday life. The articles of clothing, food, jewellery and other accessories portrayed were purchased by the artist herself – whether on holiday or in the context of everyday shopping for food or clothing. In the paintings, however, the young artist dissociates them from their personal connotations and surrenders them to the viewer’s interpretation, without, however, relinquishing their relationship to her own person, her life, her environment. That relationship is maintained by showing the objects in connection with her own corporality. What at first glance look like mirror images prove on closer inspection to be opposites, then again as links between life and environment, personality and surroundings, body and nature.
