About

Ian Polkey
b. 7 October 1953 Thurcroft, England.
Living in Cape Town, South Africa

Self-taught artist, utilising the techniques of the masters to learn the skill of oil, pastel, acrylic and watercolour painting. Body of work is extensive, dating from the 1980s.

In 2002, completed a sculpture course with the New Age Bronze Foundry in Simonstown and created a series of small sculptures.

In 2003 added computer graphics to the mix of media used. The CG techniques include straight painting, using various software with a tablet and pen/airbrush and a mix of creative methods, such as: sketching; photography; morphing and fractal elements.

Current work is establishing the artist as an expressionist and symbolist.

Inspired by the hidden images in nature, everyday objects and in real-space, dream-space and cyber-space.

In 2008 Polkey was accepted to the guest gallery of the Museum of Computer Art (MOCA)

Also accepted to 'Submit Digital Art' http://www.submit.manscostyle.com/artist_ver.php?id_art=127

Favourite artist: Odilon Redon.

Ian started by using photography as a tool for references for his paintings. He always has a camera by his side and now often takes photographs, purely as an artistic end by themselves.
