My art is an exploration of visual perception, both conscious and unconscious. We see the world in a series of quick snapshots, which our brain sews together and colours with memory and emotion. The visual landscape that we inhabit is both objective and subjective. For this reason I work with elements of both photography and painting. I spend a lot of time with each image, seeking to understand it in an intuitive and tactile way as I work into and onto it.
Dreams and haunting memories are important themes in my work. I am curious about the way that the subconscious informs the conscious mind and relates to a subjective interpretation of the world. I am also exploring the emotional impact of colour, the effect of random events that appear in the process, and the evidence of both touch and time.
