I work in the medium of painting, drawing and collage.
In front of the canvas, I am a choreographer producing a theatrical show. my work takes on a commercial look, they are in fact contemporary. My intention is to create iconic images that shock, create interest, and a reflection of the world I live in and how I interpret the world.
I am infatuated with nostalgia, fashion and theater. I am originally from Toronto Canada and studied art and design at the Ontario College of Art from 1970 and 1974. I relocated to New York City in 1977 to work on my large scale works on canvas where I repeated the "showgirl" now a trademark in my work. Commercially, my work appeared on album covers, shopping bags, greeting cards, and I designed murals for restaurants in New York City and Yokahama Japan. I also created posters for DIFFA, and Absolute Vodka.
I relocated to Miami Beach in 1996, With Miami Beach, being the gateway to Latin America, the inspiration for my work came from a potpourri of places and periods associated with the heyday of Art Deco memorabilia. I create in a style I coin "Latin Deco". Miami Beach, being the capital of Art Deco architecture was a melting pot of ideas and the Cuban influence with Florida's tropical fauna and turquoise ocean was the perfect recipe for my explosive use of color. Memorabilia from Art Deco, Haute Couture fashion, Brazilian, Latin, Ballroom dance styles, the Big Band Swing Era, Carmen Miranda movie musicals, vintage MGM movies from the '40s and '50s, Broadway theatre, Carnival in Rio, cabaret and burlesque, have all played an important role in the creations of my works of art.
My Art-Deco inspired images are collected by residential and corporate clients nationwide including the Wyndham Hotel and Resorts, the Holiday Inn, and Nescafe.
