I'm a Scottish artist working mainly in digital oils and acrylics. I paint both abstract figurative paintings and portraits, and I'm the son of renowned Edinburgh artist James Cumming.
I've developed my own digital painting and canvas techniques - I have digital brushes with custom behaviours, and I use digital canvases and textures that borrow from a subject's location or environment. I work with local and natural materials as much as possible, because they bring a reality to the final work.
My interests include changing states, symbology and dualities. The way moments, actions or roles can carry differing perspectives, sometime conflicting, sometimes complementing. The expression of mood or intent can arise through not just colour but texture, costume or gesture.
Every collector deserves a work that fills the eye, that reveals more of itself over time, that uplifts. We're all so busy we rarely notice the best moments in our day, or those of our friends, so my reward as an artist is to dwell on those, to articulate our deeds and thoughts so we can see how wonderful they really are.
