March 23 1950, AmsterdamReconstructed parts of furniture, tables, couches and chairs are colourfully ornamented with eastern beauty, they stand, hang, or emit sounds. Are they only parts of baroque furniture or do they have a deeper power? They refer to wealth and status but also ugliness and kitsch. These are strange but familiar objects that appear to have a place in another world. A new meaning and status arises in these sculptures made of used and unimportant objects. In the photographs the chapters of life move between suffering and beauty. The different forces of nature and culture become tangible and visible.
At this moment I am in a big change. I am a widow since 2007, was 33 years part of an artist couple. Only now, after having structured and cleaned everything which has to do with my late husband is finished and I am returning to my own life. I am thinking about my PHd'Arts subject. One of my main questions is: has older age influence on the career of an artist? Or: can an older artist be emerging? In the Netherlands one can apply to do research at Leiden University and at the same time the questions that arise about my own work are: is decoration allowed these days? …Read More
