Chrissy Lloyd

About

Chrissy Lloyd grew up in Eugene, Oregon but moved to New York to study oil painting at Parsons The New School of Design. Later she learned old master painting techniques from Frank Mason at the Art Student's League. In 2009, Lloyd began printmaking at the Manhattan Graphics Center, where she continues to produce work today. Her printmaking technique combines plate lithography and mono-printing.

Lloyd’s work reflects a myriad of popular cultural themes including beauty, mortality, power and myth. Lloyd’s process includes taking photos found on the internet or from fashion magazines and cropping, combining, or otherwise manipulating their size. From these she makes drawings or outlines which are used as the basis of the printmaking process. Images are redrawn to distance them from the original source material, which has the effect of making certain images more moody or intense.

Lloyd credits Renaissance painter Lucas Cranach, Baroque painters Rembrandt van Rijn and Frans Hals, and Expressionists Max Beckmann and Willem de Kooning as among her influences.
