Christopher Gallego was born in New York in 1959. He studied at the national Academy of Design and the Art Students League, both in New York.

He is the recipient of fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation, the Pollock Krasner Foundation and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
