Artist Statement
Art is a visual vehicle allowing me to share my unique viewpoint of the world. As an Artist I am asking you to respond on an emotional level to the personalities that surround you. Individually my works portrays an emotion that has been captured and expressed within the frame work of a canvas, much like a moment in time. The full impact of my work is felt when you step into a setting where the paintings are gathered as a group. As in any group you are stepping into a populated space that has energy. These highly charged oversized personalities places you the viewer into a position of a "questioning unbalance".
Artist Biography
My work focuses mainly on creating personalities. A child with MANY dolls I gave them all personalities and individual lives. I began drawing and painting my dolls and cartoon characters, adding to the depth of their lives. My professional career began as a sculptor creating life size soft sculptures of people/personalities. They were photographed going about their lives in all types of daily activities......
Unfortunately all that remains of these works are the photos of the lives they led.......Much like what is left of a person.
I than became consumed with the functionality of Art ......What was the purpose of Art in a person's life?? This thought process led me to turn my sculptures into jewelry, creating and running the company Casanna Designs.
The jewelry sculptures focused on the fluid movements of Ballet Dancers. All body parts were hand carved and then cast in silver. They were then assembled in a marionette fashion creating a moving/dancing line of unique Jewelry. After many years immersed in the commercialism of a Jewelry business I lost my passion for the work, I closed the company.
Still being interested in combining functionality with Art I began painting floor cloths..... I have always enjoyed viewing Art on the floor!! My Floor Cloth Work led me into a career as an Interior Designer.....Once again I found working the commercial side of Art to lack passion.
Several years ago I returned to creating work that was not about functionality. I now find myself back where I began, creating and enhancing personalities....!!!
