This interpretation defines who we are and I don't believe it can be thoroughly predicted nor controlled. Eisenstein made the montage between a man and a bowl of soup to suggest a hungry man. I'm interested in the subplots or how far that image can be deconstructed or cropped and still hold its power or recognition. I don't think they can be taken too far, but I'm interested in the thought of seemingly insignificant fragments holding a sense of their former story. We of course all encounter a lot of information we pick out what we need or like and move onward, but what about the elements that wind up stuck or lost in ones head that remain unplaceable or inexplicably dominant. I try to build my images from these fragments. In a way I'm not specific, I look through what so many flip through and I search for a line that I can relate with, a nicely patterned collar that when cut out and reproduced may or may not suggest the deceased rock-stars neck that it once hung around. Some imgages read easier; body parts, Roman sculptures, wild life, billboards and architectural framgents. I'm fascinated with the loaded quality of the appropriated image and want to leave traces of it within my work, ghosts that I cannot control because I can't predict what will be picked out and at times don't know all aspects of a reference myself.
