The human body is unique and has endless means of expressing and emanating emotion, I want to be able to do this in my sculpture. Statement of WorkAs a woman, mother and artist, my work questions what is womans true identity and has it been lost in the pursuit of equality? My intent is to create figurative works that are aesthetically engaging with social, romantic and realistic qualities. It is also important for me to use modern technology as well as traditional materials and methods to achieve this.Part of my supporting research has been to investigate the image of woman from different cultures over time and see how these cultures represented their woman. This has lead me to look at how social and political history has changed expected ideologies and the effect it has had on the identity of woman.Movement of the human form and sense of movement from other forces, such as the flowing robes of Greek Goddesses, have inspired my work. This movement is an important aspect for me to add energy to my sculptures.I have also been inspired by broken ancient artefacts presenting my work as physically and emotionally fragmented, focusing the attention onto the central part of the subject - the spiritual core, this allows for the peripheral extremities and identity to be left to the imagination of the viewer inviting them to become active in the creative process too.…Read More
