Born in Riverside, California in 1968. Currently lives in Longmont, Colorado.
My father taught me to be accommodating. During his explosive moods I learned to be small; when he was detached I learned to be big so he would notice me.
Aware of my environment and the influence it has upon me, I am at the same time conscious of the potential influence I have upon my surroundings. We do not live in a void; the atmosphere around us hugs our bodies and the world fits together like shapes in a puzzle. This space touches and connects us to everything.
My work reflects this awareness; shapes undulate within the space of the canvas creating a harmony between object and ground. They are doubled parent/child. bigger/smaller, as is often the case in nature, repeated but with variation.
I am interested in events that occur in the work – two objects intersect resulting in a color shift, creating an illusion of transparency. The canvas becomes a window into a moment or event along the continuum of life.
I choose to paint with a hard edge because I find the process of painting precise shapes of color calming, as if I know exactly what I’m meant to be doing in this moment.
