Description: From the Mask Faced Dolls series.
I've been compelled for several years to utilize these dolls as subjects in my paintings. Their expressions to me are very evocative and somewhat haunting. Many of them were made in post WWII Poland. Contemplating what the artists who hand painted each face might have been thinking is fascinating to me.

I always seem to come back to them, even after I really believe that they've exhausted my interest. I find them to be the perfect metaphor for the tight-rope walked by contemporary women between authenticity and falsehood.
