Description: Floating framed in dark stained and waxed oak with simple profile.

Loosely based on Nenthead lead mines so much loved by W.H.Auden. The mine entrance is one of many dotted around the hills and valleys of the North Pennines but all long since abandoned. The entrance is an access to 40 or so miles of interlinked tunnels and shafts which still exist and are explored by all kinds of people. As an artist I am not interested in spending much time under the hills but I like the mystery of this other world created by men over 100s of years in search of lead, silver, zinc and gold and other rare minerals.
