A studio furniture piece inspired by modern industrial products, whose usefulness makes them second class objects. In spite of their vibrant colors, carefully-planned forms, and lasting durability, industrial containers are often seen as unattractive and unsophisticated.
My series of crates is a study of the unique markings that an object—mass-produced or hand-made—earns in regular and incidental wear.
This particular crate was artificially distressed, but its frame’s markings aim to simulate the aesthetic of a piece of industrial equipment that has served its employers faithfully.
