This classically inspired statue shows the fractured feminine form crudely connected with a wooden armature reminiscent of fragmented sculptures of antiquity, where the poles that connect broken pieces hold as much interest as the statues themselves.
This piece is modelled on the Venus de Milo, an ancient Greek statue widely considered as the pin-up of the classical world. She was the physical target of the first ever recorded and analysed case of Agalmatophilia (where a gardener was caught trying to copulate with a replica of the statue).
On closer inspection, we discover that the body parts are cast from the inside of a cheap inflatable sex doll, and the statue become more sexually charged in a very different manner to the idealised beauty of its original. The fragmentation alludes not to the age of the statue but to the female body fractured from sexual exploitation.
The plaster faithfully replicates the manufactured texture of the plastic sex doll complete with seams, folds, and an air valve, whilst maintaining a contrasting archaic aesthetic.
