About The Artwork

An Anamorphic sculpture showing a changing sequence of four geometric forms. In four contrasting colours, bound together in a screen of suspended stainless-steel tubes, these geometric forms reveal themselves to viewers as they walk around. This one work has six decisive and different angles of vision ( they can all be seen in my portfolio ). The four forms condense / crystallize singly when the work is viewed at an angle, and open-out however, as the viewer passes, to merge with the successive form, which in turn gradually condenses. On one side of the screen circle and rhombus contrast and fuse with one another. On the other side, triangle and hexagon. The tubes are of reflective burnished steel, whereas the insides are lined with coloured, bleached and painted sealed paper, contrasting the softer coloured interior with the hard metal exterior, thus the geometric forms seen in cold burnished steel on the outside become framed by the inner colour of the forms behind them. ( Steel hexagon framed by a scarlet red circle ; steel triangle framed by the blues and greens of rhombus and hexagon ; rhombus backed by the yellows and reds of triangle and circle ; circle itself dominates permitting only glimpses of green and blue from hexagon and rhombus. ) The external surfaces, at moments reflect the colours from within, at others reflect and break-up the colours and light of the environment around. The work suspended in space, on fine wires, slices-up and frames views of the landscape, sometimes it becomes a shimmer in space. This 3-dimensional work is a work of angles of vision and moments, a continual metamorphosis in relation to it’s external environment and the changing conditions of light.

I'm an English artist now living in Italy. I grew up in northern England, in Derbyshire. Having artist parents I grew-up being encouraged to observe everything around me. Living in a landscape surrounded by hills I was always curious to see what was on the other side of those hills, beyond those hills were others ; curiosity is an incessant stimulus. I studied art at Manchester Polytechnic, the London College of Printing, and the Royal College of Art. Concluding my studies for some years I worked for periods in studios in Italy and Norway, punctuated by returning to England to make and exhibit my own work, and tuitioring as visiting lecturer at Manchester Polytechnic and Wrexham College of Art & Design. In 1991 I joined the accademic staff at Manchester Metropolitan University, as Lecturer in Ceramics in the department of 3Dimensional Design. However in 1993 I took the decision to leave the post at Manchester to join my companion in Italy. Setting up my own studio I began working and exhibiting in my own right in Italy and abroad. My work is present in various contemporary art museums and pubblic collections and I have realizzed commissions for both organizzations and private clients.
