This piece developed from a series of Cut-out sculptures. Initially I was interrogating source material such as magazines and media publications, removing both text and image due to a visual block I had with painting at the time. Influenced by Tom Friedman's paper sculptures '3 Identical Screwed Up Balls Of Paper' and 'A White Sheet Of Paper Perforated With A Pin', also Rauschenberg's 'Erased De Kooning' I was exploring the process of adding something by deletion or using negative space as a function. This developed into using publications from the other end of the spectrum, what I call 'Power Objects'. Once the Bible is altered, much like the magazines, then its energy shifts, so I wanted to see the altered energy of an object that was powered by a great number of people. The composition of the object determines how the deletion will occur, once all the information is removed what is left is a fragile remnant and an imposition on the viewers memory of that object.
