The work for “Fracture” perfectly reflects Paolo’s impressionistic style. He invests a lot of himself in traditional methods to produce his work but this work is not merely about photographic process. Wanting to expand the possibilities of the Photograph, he was inspired by a misfortunate event. When a radiologist friend of his suffered a multiple clavicle fracture in a car accident and subsequently showed Paolo her X-rays, he was immediately struck by the fragility of the image before him. He saw it as something beautiful arising out of a traumatic moment and was driven to create images normally seen as part of an unfortunate event into something beautiful to behold. This cathartic approach has allowed Paolo to create a series of images that can similarly touch everyone’s experience.
