Untitled (2009-2010)
Dolls are friendly and charming things, which everyone is familiar with from their own childhoods. But by the simple treatment of painting them black, they are deprived of the characteristics which are so characteristic of them – their pleasant smoothness, their bright eyes, their smooth colours. Here, their painted portraits take on a fundamentally different character. Increased to sizes beyond the normal (100 cm x 70 cm), they reveal characteristics of the dolls which are normally hard to perceive, and become monumental images of unexpected emotions.
