The aim of my work is to portray certain aspects of subculture in the formal setting of an art gallery, thus bridging the gap between two areas of society. I combine elements of sculpture, photography and digital art in the creation of this series. In these works, I address the issue of drug culture in the United Kingdom; more specifically ecstasy. The recreational use of this drug in the UK has been prominent for years, and numbers are still rising. Ecstasy is also linked to underground music and rave culture, where the drug triggered a rise in the popularity of electronic music and vice versa. I create surreal scenes that reveal not only the repetitive nature of drug culture, but also its dualistic effects on the individual and society. I wish to capture the systematic ritualism associated with the act of taking drugs, and depict it with a sense of infinite continuity.
