About The Artwork

Camera blur / light painting either happens by accident or done on purpose as part of experimenting with photography; in my case after exhausting day trips taking tripod to photograph landscapes I came back home to relax on a bench under a tree and would test out a zoom lens I was never fond of since prime fixed focal lenses is what I loved to use... The more I experimented and tested with camera blur before sunset the more abstract and strange the light rays through the leaves became; soon found myself fascinated with the streaks of light and how the pre-twilight colours of the sky and clouds affected the overall colortone of the photos I took. I enjoyed this experimentation so much I tried during the morning sunrise 'golden hour' with different low ISO and high F-Stop settings to find the perfect predictable balance between how long the shutter stays open and how I could tilt, turn, zoom and just shake the camera until I sat with many a failure photo but also a few very interesting light painting abstracts which if edited correctly... yielded very other-worldy and ethereal looking scenes with colours that were very pleasing and fascinating to look at... By no means a digital creation or a fractal rendering; this is genuinely a photograph and with now more than 3 years of passion and dedication put into it - shown for sale as part of my art photography collection and sold in an original edition of only 1. Each print is unique and therefore will only be printed once on fine art paper; to be the sole copy of a single owner who originally bought it and NO further copies will ever be printed after, ever. Signed, thumprint authenticated with date and also my signature in pencil underneath each photo along with a certificate of authenticity will be given upon purchase. in addition, every photo is printed with an extra (3.5cm / 1.37in) white fine art paper border to allow for any imaginable framing option style.

"Art is the window to man's soul. Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world; nor could the world see the man within." ~Claudia Johnson Nature and surrealistic emotive artist -fine art photography, oil on canvas impasto paintings - South Africa... Nico van der Merwe: In 1977 on a rainy overcast day he opened his eyes and as the years passed spent an ever increasing amount of time perusing his fathers vast amount of photographic books and guides to finally be confident enough to pursue his self-taught and growing love for emotive, surrealistic and nature photography. Having endless appreciation for any form of art he finds photography to be his link to reality and this medium in itself relies in totality on something which he cannot fathom to exist nor dream without; light - no haunting shadow will manifest itself or be driven away without it... 14 September 2010 marks his anniversary of packing up his artistic dreams and ambitions to settle in the Little Karoo town of Calitzdorp which now serves as his foundation and escape from city existence to pursue, find and live life in this region. Being more than happy to spend countless days in the rain with a broken red umbrella and capture the awe-inspiring heavens over this magical regions landscape; blistering hot sunny days with no cloud cover makes him appreciate the joy of living under Gods glory and gives him much pleasure in showing the world a different perspective of his country on a daily basis. As enigmatic as the Little Karoo may be; there is a lonely yearning cry from both present and past generations of inhabitants that he feels needs to be heard, dreams and high hopes that should not fade with time and be forgotten - Thus, he has taken his signature style a step further to fully explore and showcase the emotional interaction between persons near to him and those who he finds to interconnect with his journey through life.
