The brilliant scarlet of rain-soaked red cedar caught my eye as I passed by a pile of chopped firewood. This piece in particular fascinated me, as the outside bark had been pulled away, revealing a pale section of film which resides between the bark and red heartwood. It would appear that this thin layer had scraped up against the other chunks of wood in the pile, resulting in a wonderful abstract pattern of marks.
