The Main Street series explores issues dealing with human connection. In this case, I wanted to study this common surface structure that we exploit daily and which connects us all. This image is from the subset, Surface.
When conceived, I saw the series as a bit like studying the grain of film or the pixels of digital execpt for the human connection. What I found was something more complex and rich. Those homogenous surfaces were not so and presented a rich variety of textures and individual presence. It was often hard to justify stopping at first, as the surface would seem just like any other until I stopped and really looked, not much different than most things in life, I suppose.
The series ended up in 3 parts: Surface, Color and Markings.
The entire series can be seen here: http://www.johnacurso.com/Main-Street-1.html
